In an update aimed at boosting user safety, especially during late-night outings or uncertain travel situations, Snapchat has introduced “Home Safe” alerts. The feature gives users the ability to send a one-time notification to friends on their Snap Map when they reach home—without having to send a manual message.
Snapchat users can activate this feature via their location settings. Once they set a location as “My Home” on the Snap Map by tapping their Bitmoji, they can manually turn on Home Safe anytime they want to notify someone they’ve made it back. After the alert is triggered once, it automatically turns off, preventing unnecessary notifications.
“It’s designed to add peace of mind for both users and their close friends,” Snapchat said in a statement. “Whether someone’s walking home at night or returning from a trip, Home Safe offers a simple way to let others know they’re okay.”
Privacy remains a key priority for the app. The alert will only be sent to friends the user has already chosen to share their location with, and the home location itself is never publicly visible.
This addition builds on Snapchat’s ongoing efforts to support user well-being. While users can already share real-time location through Snap Map, the Home Safe alert adds a deliberate check-in layer, meant to be used in specific scenarios rather than always-on tracking.
The rollout comes at a time when digital safety tools are becoming more important, especially for younger audiences who rely on messaging apps for daily communication. By giving users more control over their safety without compromising privacy, Snapchat is aiming to strike a thoughtful balance.
Snapchat’s “Home Safe” feature is now available globally to all users starting today.
